Specialty Workshops are designed as follow-ups to the "School Problems" Workshop.
IEP Goals Workshop - Annual goals, based on the child's current needs, help determine the type of special education placement and the level of related services the school district should provide for the child. This workshop is designed to help participants to answer the following questions:
- How do I determine my child's present level of performance, current needs and appropriate level of service?
- What do the tests results tell me?
- How can I recognize or help develop good IEP goals and benchmarks?
- How do I know then modifications and/or accommodations are appropriate?
"Not Really a Bad Kid" Workshop - Supporting Kids with Behavior Issues
School problems often involve behavior problems, which may be discipline or social issues. Behaviors in school are the primary reason that students are put in a more restrictive classroom or are suspended or expelled. Unfortunately, when problems occur, events happen fast. Parents need to know how to get system supports for their child or their child's special needs may be overlooked. This workshop is an overview of how problem behaviors can develop as well as what the rights and supports are for students. Workshop materials are designed to empower parents to advocate for their child under normal and emergency situations.
IEP "Eyes" Workshop
Drafting a good IEP is the most important step in securing appropriate services for the child with special needs. However, once that task is complete, will the IEP be implemented? Is the child receiving all the designated services? Is the child learning and progressing? This workshop is designed to train parents and professionals in the skills to do an effective classroom observation, to secure service logs, to monitor service delivery, and to evaluate IEP objectives. These skills will enable you to monitor the IEP and assure implementation. |
